Garage door opener not working
Broken spring, stuck door or a dead opener? Call and we'll connect you with a local garage door pro.
Call (772) 555-0100Main Street Services is a free referral service. We connect you with independent local service providers. We don't do the work ourselves.
When the opener hums but the door doesn't move, or the door starts down and then reverses, the cause is often simple. Sometimes it's a sign of a bigger problem with the door itself.
Things you can check safely
- Power: is the opener plugged in, and has a breaker or GFCI outlet tripped?
- Remote and keypad: try the wall button. If it works, the remote or keypad battery may be dead.
- Safety sensors: the two small sensors near the bottom of the tracks must face each other with nothing in between. Wipe the lenses and check that their lights are on.
- Lock: make sure the door's manual lock or slide bolt isn't engaged.
When to call
If the motor runs but the door won't move, the door hangs crooked, or you see a broken spring or cable, stop using the opener. Running it against a door that isn't balanced can damage both.
What happens when you call
- You call the number on this page. A short automated assistant asks two or three questions, such as what's wrong and your ZIP code, so we can find the right provider.
- We connect your call to an independent garage door provider who serves your area.
- You talk with the provider directly about the problem, timing and price before any work starts.
Main Street Services doesn't charge you for the referral. The provider sets their own prices and does the work. Calls are recorded for quality and billing.
